A BOY IN TROUBLE.
PROMINENT MEN INVOLVED,
Christchurch, Alay 31.—0 n Alay 14 a youth named Middleton, aged 18, was convicted of drunkenness and ©f having assaulted a waitress in a restaurant, and was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, but subsequently was released by the Prisons Board. The sequel was hoard in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when William Nidd, licensee of the Royal Hotel, was charged with selling liquor to a person under 21 years and with selling liquor after hours. The evidence disclosed that the boy had three drinks of port wine and brandy, Geoffrey Tabart paying for two and Vincent. Ward for the third. For the defence it was contended that the boy appeared over age, and did not look intoxicated. The charge of selling after hours was admitted. On the first charge defendant was fined £7 10s and on the second. £S.—(P.A.)
