AMERICA AND JAPAN.
WAR PREDICTED. “NO FRIEND IN EUROPE.” (Press Association Cable—Copyright.) (Received 8.10 p.m.) New York. May 31.— Senator J. H. Lewis. speaking at memorial services at Glcnellyn, Illinois, predicted war with Japan, with the latter backed by America's former allies. “The United States has no friend in Europe, and must be vigilant and watchful against tricks, under cover of friendship, perpetrated by nations which, though accepting ©nr sacrifice in blood and money, have neither a sense of appreciation nor of gratitude,” Lewis declared, adding: “Japan is just coming into consciousness of power, and Asia will demand and her allies will insist that America shall grant citizendiip privileges. Her allies will not dare refuse, because of commercial entanglements. The younger generation will see a Pacific struggle to decide whether America shall be the first nation of the world or go dow n under an Asiatic stroke, backed by her allies.”— (United Service.)
