j OPENING DAY. I (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCABGiILL. Last Night. The forty-fifth annual show of the, Southland A. and P. Association opened to-day in fine weather. The general entries show an encouraging increase on those of the previous year, and in respect to the quality of the exhibits all round the show is the best ever held by the Association, cattle classes being especially striking. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, G.C.M.G., was the guest of the Association at luncheon to-day, and was also tendered a civic reception. The Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister of Agriculture, will be present on the People's Day, to-morrow.
