MASTERTON WEST SCHOOL.

A SUCCESSFUL .IJAZAA.U. There was a largo gathering ol fronts and friends at tJio bazaar hold at the Masterton West School yesterday afternoon, in aid ol ; the development of the grounds, and a very successful sale resulted. The Chairman of the School Committee (Mr Alex. Donald) presided, and after a brief address presented the pupils with their'certificates and prizes. Mr W. T. Grundy, of the Education Board, was also present, and addressed the gathering. The formal opening of the bazaar then took place, the ceremony being performed by Mr G. R, Sykes, M.P., who, in a few well chosen words, wished the sale all success. He congratulated the headmaster and the Committee upon the fine display presented, and also upon the exceptional progress made by the school and its pupils during the past year. In reply, the headmaster (Mr IT Miller) stated that he wished to express his appreciation of the support which he had received from the parents in connection with the effort, The whole of the material had been obtained free of cost, and be hoped that a satisfactory sum would be the result. During the afternoon the Mayoress (Mrs W. H. Jackson) and Miss Sellar, on behalf of Navy League, presented the school with a Union Jack. Mr Miller suitably replied on behalf of the pupils. Brisk business was done at the stalls, and before long many of the well provided stands bad been completely cleared, the bazaar realising the verv satisfactory sum of £SB 1.-1 s 9d. Following were the stall-holders:— Sweets and Cake stall. —Miss T'dy and Miss Lonz. Fancy stall.—Miss MoKenzio. assisted by pupils. Produce stall.—Miss White, and pupils. Flower stall.—Miss J. Brown.
