POSTAL CONFERENCE.

" MEETING- AT MADRID. (By Electric. Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Ausfc'falian-N.Z. Cable Association.) Received Last Night, 7.25 o'clock. MADRID, Oct. 14. The Postal Conference will probably last a further six weeks. The agenda included 2000 propositions, but the principal task is to readjust international postal rates, owing to the extraordinary differences in the exchanges in countries within the Postal Union, whereby the face value of stamps bear no relation to their money values. The Conference is endeavouring to find a solution by adoption of tho gold franc as tho standard. By thi3 means all international postages will bo regulated, thus equalising tho values. It is also proposed to realise all international postages to meet the increased cost of postal services.
