PERSONAL.

Mr M. B. Tait has been elected deputy-Mayor of Featherston. Mr W. Barton, of Featherßton, has returned from a visit to the United States.

Mr Bruce Joll, of Te Roti, Taranaki, is at present on a visit to Masterton.

Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P., will conduct the evening service in the Methodist Church on Sunday evening next. A pleasant function took place at the Magistrate's Court at Martinborough this week, when Mr S. L. P. Free, S.M., on behalf of the Justices and members of the Bar, presented Constable Dick, who is leaving shortly for Wellington, with a travelling rug, as an expression of esteem. He stated that he had always found Constable Dick an exceedingly zealous officer who had ever done his duty with the utmost courtesy and consideration. The constable had been a model officer, and had, without the special training usual for that office, filled the position of Clerk of the Court with credit. A further presentation was made to Constable Dick from the brethren of Lodge Waihenga, when he was the recipient of a ease of English pipes. A very pleasant function was held at the Kia Ora Rooms in Masterton last night when the staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., met to farewell Mr M. R. Iggulden, who is leaving shortly for Auckland. Mr J. H. Griffiths was in the chair, and on behalf of the staff presented the departing guest with a suit case, referring in eulogistic terms to the esteem in which Mr Iggulden is held. Mr Iggulden suitably replied, and expressed regret at severing his connection with the branch. Occasion was also taken'to welcome two new members of the firm's staff, Messrs Robinson and Eternden, who also briefly replied. An enjoyable musical programme and supper brought the gathering to a close.
