The Hon. H. F. "Wigram, of Christchurch, has resigned his seat in the Legislative Council. ' The Rev. ,7. A. Ryburn, of Dunedin, has accepted a call to Te Aroha, in the Presbytery of Waikato. Mr John Low, overseer for the Agricultural Department at Weraroa, has resigned his position. Two well-known Maori chiefs named Weraroa Kingi and Mete Kingi have died at Putiki, Wanganui, this week. The death is announced from Feilding of Captain J. Campbell, a pioneer settler of the Hawke's Bay district. Mr F. W. Kummor, of Masterton, left for Wellington yesterday, to proceed to Sydney with the New Zealand rifle team.

Mr Hugh Morrison, of Masterton, has been elected chairman of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union.

Messrs Hugh McKay, 'J'. Modgins, and J. A. Walsh, of' the L'ahiatua branch of the Farmers' Union, were in Masterton yesterday. The death has occurred at the Waikalo Hospital of Mr Walter Bond Young, aged seventy-three. He was for thirty years a member of the police force, retiring seven years ago.

The Wairarapa Presbytery lias nominated Professor Hewitson, of Dunediu, for the Moderatorship of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. Brown, M.A., has been elected chairman of the Advisory Board appointed in connection with the proposed Masterton High School. Mr W. T. Grundy has been appointed secretary, . pro tem. "Word has been received from Ashburton of the death, at the age of G7 years, of Mr James Ritchie, last oi Bourke street, Palmers ton North, and for many years a driver on the Manawatu line, both under the Company's and the Government's control. Amongst old residents of the West Coast of the South Island who passed away recently are Mr Timothy Malone, of Blackball, aged 81 years; Mr H. Jacobs, of Hokitika, aged 74, anc) Mr M. Ryan, also of Hokitika, Mrs George Regan, who was for many years a resident of Blackball, died at Wellington a few days ago. The Revs. G. T. Brown', of Masterton, E. J. Tipler, of Carterton, anc! G. K. Stowell, of Featherston, will represent the Wairarapa Presbytery at the Presbyterian General Assembly at Wellington. Delegates have also to Be appointed by the Pahiatua, Featherston, and Martinborough charges. Mr William B. Fulton, who died at Papakura on Saturday, aged 82 years, only survived his wife five days. He was in the Royal Navy on the Indian station during the Mutiny, and in 1860 took part in the expedition to China, when the Taku forts were captured. He arrived in New Zealand ill the Viola, and was a well known farmer at Papakura for many years.
