NOTES JBY "BEE." Tip Up has corao into favour for some of the minor hurcllo events at tno C.J.C meeting. Hurry Up is expected to win a race at Christchurch before the meeting is over. Hylans and daylight are fancied in Christclmrcn for the Grand National Hurdles. The first race at the Grand National mooting at Christchurch to-day will start at 11 a.m. J. Kaan will ride Crib in the Grand National Steeplechase.. Hetaua, the four-year-old son of Demosthenes, is expected to run well in the Winter Cup. Hector Gray has contracted a, bad cold, and is not expected to bo in evidenco at the Riccarton meeting. Sussex is the name claimed for the two-year-old half-brother by Vareo, to Canzonet, which is one of J. Buchanan's team. The light-weight horseman, J. Armstrong, who hails from the Wairarapa district, is now associated with E. Pope's stable at Ellerslie. L. H. Hewitt iB selling up his home, and leaves by the first available boat for Sydney, and will then decide where he will make for, India, the Argentine, or England. Oakleigh is reported to have given a very line exhibition of jumping over a round of the big fences at Ricearton on Thursday morning. The eolt by Martian, from Nerve, purchased at tho sale of the Waifeanao yearlings in January last, has been named Zero Hour. He is owned by a resident of Wairarapa. Rowley Hatch is getting a strong team together, the latest addition being Nobleman. The change is duo to his owner, Mr W. "Phillips, taking up his residence in Palmerston. Mr J. Hay has sold the Piedmont —-Adelo filly, half-sister to Turangapito, to Mr Charles Russell. She is at present located in one of the Palmerston stables.; H. Lorrigan has been retained to ride Paraoa in the Hurdles, L. Hogarty, who had previously been engaged, having taken the mount on All Talk. Hegarty has already won this event on Sir Solo. T). Webster, who journeyed to Sydney a while back" with the hurdlers, Master Moutoa and Fisher, is seriously thinking of returning to the "other side" and following his calling there as trainer. Webster not only likes tho climate, but speaks in glowing terms of Australian sporting folk.
Word comes from Bulls that IT. King: has an addition to his already strong team in an untried mare by Zimmerman. King has Idealoguo, Miss Love (owned by Palmerston sportsmen), and Whizz Bang in good racing trim.. Tho last-mentioned finished in several races last season in such attractive fashion, that it is safe to predict that he will be heard of to advantage early this season. "Whizz" is above a moderate.
