ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
REID BEFORE THE COURT. The man William Reid, who attempted suicide in -Masterton on Saturday morning by slashing his throat with a razor, appeared before Mr S. L. P. Free, S.M., yesterday. The accused was represented by Mr W. Noble. Evidence was given by Sergeant Miller, Dr. Cowie, and Herbert A. Jones, which bore out the facts as, stated in our issue of yesterday. Mr Noble, for defendant, suggested that Mr Jones should take Reid to Feilding away from the. unhappy environment of his home, which would no doubt restore him to his normal condition. His Worship said defendant no doubt now realised that he had committed a foolish act. Although defendant no doubt lived unhappily with his wife he should remember that he had children, who looked to Him for support. No penalty would bo inflicted, but defendant would be ordered to pay £5 5s 6d expenses incurred.
