A well known Otaki native named To Rei has just died, at the age of about ninety years. Nurse Dickens, a popular member of the staff of the Master ton hospital, has resigned l her position. - Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., has recovered from his attack of influenza, and proceeds to Wellington to-day. Sister McKenzie, ,of the Masterton hospital staff, has been granted six weeks' extended leave of absence. A Sydney cable records the death of Mrs Wood, formerly well known as Miss Essie Jenyns, the Shakesperian actress. The death occurred on Thursday last, at the age of thirty-eight years, of Mr Francis Donald Banks, a well known sporting enthusiast of Wanganui. Nurse Dorothy, Horner, of the staff of the Masterton hospital, who was recently successful in passing her State examination, has been appointed a staff nurse at the local institution.
The Manchester Daily Dispatch of a recent date says it is quite likely that Sir Thomas Mackenzie will be back in England before long on behalf of some of the great mutton interests of New Zealand. It was decided at yesterday's meeting in Masterton of the Central Committee of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, to forward a letter of sympathy to the relatives of the late Matron McLean,, formerly of the- Grey town hospital. The late Mr Lewis Wilton, formerly of Te Rangitumau, and one of the victims of the Tinui motor fatality, vV.ns well known in dairy circles in the Wairarapa, having for some time filled the-position of manager of the Masterton Dairy Company's creamery. The Central Committee of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, yesterday granted two months leave of absence to Miss Gladys Smith of the secretarial staff of the Board. Miss Smith is shortly proceeding with her parents and sister on a trip to Australia. At a meeting of directors of the Masterton Dairy Company on Saturday, a resolution of deep sympathy was passed to the children and relatives in connection with the death of the late Mr Lewis Wilton, of Te Rangitumau, and his wife. The late Mr Wilton was at one time an employee of the Company. Mr John Doak, who died at Ashburton on Thursday, in his 79th year, was a very well known farmer of the Wakanui district, where he had resided for upwards of 40 years. Some years ago he retired from"* active farming operations, and went to live in Ashburton.
