PUBLIC TELEPHONE

AT RAILWAY STATION.

At yesterday's meeting of the Mastcrton Chamber of Commerce, it was decided to draw the attention of the Post Office authorities to the fact that a "penny in the slot" telephone had not yet been installed at the Mastcrton railway station. This has been a longstanding matter, and Mr. D. M. Graham remarked: "The Post Office is not sympathetic to progress, and continually gives us inattention." He stated that nearly every railway station of any importance had a telephone for public use. Mr. Boddington: "Not at Ashburton, Tiniaru, nor Oamaru. Mr. J. C. Cooper: "If they are not up to-date in the South it is no reason why we should not bo." It was decided to again request the postal authorities to attend to the matter.
