Among the visitors to Makuri at present are Lieut.-Colonel Robertson, of the India Office, and Mrs Robertson. They have had some good fishing, and are delighted with their visit.

Miss Ella Mac Donald, second daughter of the Hon. W. D. S. McDonald and Mrs. Mac Donald (Wellington) is sailing on or about March 18 for Singapore, where she is to be married to Mr. Herbert Davidson, of the Eastern Extension Cable Company's staff.

A wedding of interest was solemnised on Wednesday, March 19, at the Methodist Churph, Foxton, by the Rev. A. Harding, the contracting parties being Frank Henry Mills, third son of the late Mr 6. Mills and Mrs Pope, of Cheltenham, and Effie Muriel, third daughter of Mr and Mrs 6. W, Scadden, of Foxton, and formerly of Masterton.

The death took place at the Greytown Hospital at an early hour yesterday morning, of Mrs Humphpries, wife of Mr Joseph Humphries, of Carterton. The deceased, who was fiftyeight years of age, leaves a family of three daughters and one son. She was a daughter of Mr George Kiddie, one of the early settlers of the district. Much sympathy is felt with the family in their bereavement.

Where afs all the people coming from who are crowding every portion of "the hub of the world?" asks an Australian writer. London is, at least, living, up to this reputation, even.if it is creating a lesa desirable one in regard to prices. A friend who was fortunate to visit the great city prior to the rush for accommodation, paints a peathetic picture of the straits to which people have been reduced. Three friends came up from the country to visit my correspondent, who, with a ahum, rents a compact little flat, and they spent a jolly evening. But the jollity waned when the trio revisited :he flat in tho small hours, and had to be accommodated willy-nilly on the Joor—for the ypoms they had engaged .it an hotel in the neighbourhood had been remorselessly '' jumped'' by other benighted travellers. So there you xrc! Trippers overseas would do well ;o look before they leap, these days, fhe inclusion of a camping outfit .strikes mo as rather a good idea. Anyway, it sounds accessary.
