BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
The Women's Christian Temperance Union ia endeavouring to again obtrude the question of Bible-reading m schools. The public had hoped that this question would not again be revived, for it ia attended with peril to a system which has taken many yoara to establish, and which has stood the test of time. Facilities are already afforded for giving religious, instruction after school hours, and the Nelson system has been in existence lor quite a long period. It has yet to be proved that this system in inadequate. The introduction of Bible-teaching in schools as part of the curriculum is fraught with imminent danger. In the first place, it imposes a responsibility upon teachers which the latter absolutely refuse to accept. In the second place, it is calculated to create religious differences which' would .paralyse the whole system of education. The community will vigorously resist any attempt to mix religion with secular instruction.
