SPORTING NOTES
Thero will be racing at Taumraunui to-morrow. Despite her defeat at Woodville Statuette will pay her - way, and should have little difficulty in winning a couple of races during the holiday season. Seasprite has gone wrong, and the daughter of Hallowmas will be allowed to forfeit her Christmas and i\et. Year engagements, in fact she may want a lengthy spell. ■ The San Fran gelding Goldshine is rauch better than public performances indicate, and providing he goes on the right way this gelding will win cups in the autumn, if not before. We go from home to hear news A Taranaki paper says:—Tuticorn was sold for £j.UO on tho night of tinfirst day's racing at Woodville. The new owner of Sarto's 6on received a "limit" dividend on Thursday. Arrowsmith is well handicapped in the Fitzherbert Handicap at Manavvatu. This horse ran the six furlongs at Woodville in lmin 14£ sec.(the best gallop of the day), and was ; only cantering over the last bit.' Arrowsmith is reported to have run four furlongs in 48secs > before being sent south, and one thing is certain —he will extend Acre, Onslaught and Co. at Manawatu. The Wanganui District Committee at a recent mating, acting on the suggestion of tho Manawatu Racing Club, remitted the balance of the disqualification imposed on W. Young in connection with the Ibex case Later it was found that this matter rested with the N.Z. Racing Conference, so that for the present the disqualification will have to stand.
Some doubt has been raised as to whether Lepanto is eligible to start in the Trial Plate at Awapuni on Boxing Day. This race is open to horses who have not won a race at the time of starting, and as Lepanto yvon a hurdle race at the recent Feild:ng meeting it seems quite evident that the C6mpfire mare is not eligible. At anyrate it is a matter that will not cause much bother as it is understood that Lepanto is going to the coast for the Christmas meetings.
