Deo. 26, 29, Jan. 1, 2—Auoklbnd R.O. (By "Bee.") • Sir Solo and Master Boris have been turned out at Opaki for a spell. Acceptances for the Feilding meeting are due on Ifriday evening. Silenuß and Chimera are almost certain starters at the Feilding meeting.
Australian writers spoke of Hymes- 7 tra as one of Mr. Kemball's team likely to strike form .this season. 'g In a recent try-out on the Opaki j course Lady General beat Chimera by half a length in very fast time. j Bagby will have the mount on Mul- 1 taine in the Ashhurst Cup. The aged Multifid mare iB very well just now. j ; Mr. W. R. Kemball's big gunß, Hymestra, Snub, and Co., are at •! present located at Feilding in charge ! of trainer Hawthorne. Young Corlett, the well-known Opaki jockey, was considerably bruised at the Christchurch meeting aa a result of a fall by one of his mounts. A large area of land in the centre of the Opaki course is at present being prepared for a crop of turnips. A crop of oats adjoining ia looking particularly well just now. M. McDonald, who made his reappearance in the saddle at the Carterton meeting, rode Depredation to victory in the Mitchelson Cup at the Auckland meeting. He will be riding at Ashhurst to-day. • Prior to winning at Riccarton, Falstaff was under offer to a local sportsman for SOOgns. He could hare been purchased for the same figure after his success on Saturday, but no business reulted. McFlynn has been engaged to ride Matatua in the Pohangina Handicap at Ashfiurst. The Birkenhead gelding ran a good third to Hetaua and Kipling at Wellington, and recently put up a good trial. Red Ribbon is being treated to steady work at Opaki in view of the Auckland meeting, where the aged Elevation mare will again essay to win the Cup. Trainer Walter Garrett is anything if not persistent. He has one Auckland Cup to his credit, and Red Ribbon has been placed second. s The owner of Red Ribbon and Vitella (Mr. Fred Dorset) has a classical looking colt by Absurd— Electrum at present in work at the Opaki course, under the direction of trainer W. Garrett. The colt is wellgrown, with splendid galloping qualities, and should be heard of later. He will prebably be ready for the Masterton meeting in March. Vitella may be nominated for the Woodville meeting. The Hallowmass mare sustained an injury just prior to the Taratahi-Carterton meeting, where she won the Trial Plate, of which she has since felt tjjie effects. 1 The mare got away with the lad who was riding her and jumped a wire fence, in doing which ehe struck a post. Her followers at the TaratahiCarterton meeting would not have felt so confident had they been aware of her condition at the time of starting. The win demonstrates what a good mare she must be.
