THE BUTCHERS' STRIKE

(Bv Telegraph—Preßs Association) AUCKLAND, Last Night. Two of the butchers on strike; who were arrested during a disturbance yesterday, and were, subseqeutnly bailed out by the secretary of the Butchers' Union, were charged to day: (1) With using insulting behaviour with intent to provoke n breach; of the peace; and (2) that intent to prevent a man from doing what he had a legal right tq do, namely, working. There was a large gathering of strikers in the precincts of the Court. . A somewhat warm discussion took place between ths Magistrate and counsel as to a request made by counsel Tor an adjournemtn of the cases ,which was opposed by the police. ' ■ Eventually the caseß were adjourned until the afternoon, when fines of £5 were imposed for the charge relating to the breach of the peace, the other charge being adjourned for a week. The position as regards the strike is unchanged, although another shop opened this morning, and employers regard the position as highly satisfactory. There is some talke of a conference between the employers- and the Union, and that failing a conference, the slaughtermen 'toay take some action.
