BOROUGH COUNCIL

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last night at the Council Chambers, when His Worship the Mayor' (Mr. W. H. Jackson) and Councillors O'Leary, Perry, Burridge, McLeod, Candy, Atkinson, Henderson, Watson, and King were present. It was decided to adopt the SubCommittee's recommendation in connection with the disposal of a certain piece of land in Mary Street. The Wairarapa Hydro-Electric Committee requested that the Council pass a resolution approving of the proposal re inner boundaries.—This was agreed to. It was decided, on' the .motion of Councillor King, that the Council object to the proposed percentage of cost on the Rimutaka Road. Councillor King was appointed the Council's representative to the conference of local bodies to consider the proposal. The Abattoirs, Poundkceper's, and Gasworks Reports were read and adopted upon the motion of the Mayor. Upon the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to exchange eighteen acres of the Council's land for a similar, amount belonging to the Wellington Farmers r Meat Co., Ltd., I upon whicih the Company proposed to erect the woollen mills. The action in connection with the Central Hotel proposal was endorsed, Councillors expressing appreciation of His Worship's efforts in this direction. • Councillor King moved thjft the Public Trust be requested to set back their proposed building to the life of the other portion of the street. - Upon the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to request the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company to round off the corner of their property, upon which they proposed to erect offices. Councillor McLeod requested leave of absence from the Council owing to undertaking an election in various distant portions of the district. —Upon the motion of the Mayor, leave was granted Cquacillw McLeod.
