COMPLAINTS TO COUNCIL
A SHORT STREET DEPUTATION,
A deputation representing residents in the locality of Pownall and Short Streets waited upon the Masterton Borough Council last evening. The first speaker was.Mr. W. Hulme, who complained about the offensive odours from the Youla works, and the conditions locally in general, respecting gas and wateT supply. Mr. H. M. Boddington supported Mr. Hulmo's protest regarding the offensive smell in Short Street. This matter had been going on for the past fifteen months. He cited the Court's decision at Petone recently concerning ■offensive smells." Mr. Boddington hoped that something would be done \ in connection with the installation of gas and water in the locality. Mr. W. B. Chennells supported the previous speakers. He • maintained that the gas connection would be a straight-out business proposition. Mr. Chennells also urged the widening of the Pownall Street crossing into Short Street, and traced previous' negotiations in connection with that proposal. The speaker expressed the hope that the' present Council would not lose sight of this important matter. Mr. Dickason also supported the protests of the previous speakers. Upon the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Cwidy, it was decided to request the Sanj.tary Inspector to make a full report to the Council, and a committee consisting of the Council as a whole,, was set up to visit the locality and make a report and recommendation in ,conneoti6n with the ' *" street widening matter.
