DATE OF ELECTIONS.

The Auckland provincial employers have requested that the general elections be held on December 10, on the ground that to hold them in the following week would seriously disturb the holiday trade. Under ordinary circumstances, it would be desirable that the elections be held as far away frpm the Christmas holidays as possible. On the, present occasion, however, it is necessary that the fullest opportunity should be afforded returning soldiers to record their votes. The longer the election is delayed, the less chance will there be of some thousands of soldiers being disfranchised. It would be better to take the risk of losing a little trade than t» do an injustice to soldiers that could be avoided. For this reason it is probable that the elections will be delayed until December 17.
