THE CLERKS' UNION
A CANTERBURY DISPUTE. (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. An industrial, ifcsjmte between the newly-formed ' Christchurch C'erks, Cashiers, and Office Employees' Union and* their employers came before the Conciliation Council to-day. Except for a little individual criticism, none of the clauses in the union's demands were discussed, the, employers' agents holding that it was impossible in one document of recommendations to govern the many trades and professions cited. The proceedings were adjourned on the understanding that if, in the meantime, the union does no* draft freeh proposals, the Council cannot make any recommendations to the Arbitration Court. In all, the union cited 330 employers, and many applications were lodged by employers and employees for exemption. The union asked for a 38-hours week, and wages ranging from 25s per week for the first year of service to 110> per week for. the fifth year.
