OBITUARY.
DAVID BUICK, M.P.
The death occurred at Wellington lute on Monday night of Mr David Buick, MJ\ for Palmerston. The late Mr Buick, who waß 70 years of age, was one of the early settlers, arriving in the Manawatu district over thirty years ago" and taking up land in Kairanga. Ho was a breeder of stud sheep, and in his racing stable were many noted, winners. Mr Buick had been Palmerston's representative in Parliament for the past 10 years, and he waa in Wellington attending the session when he contracted influenza and died from complications epsuing thereon. Mr Buick leaves one son, Mr David Buick, of Kairanga, and five daughters, Mrs Murray (Ohau), Mrs Tarrant (Sydney), Mrs Constable (Napier), Mrs E. West and Miss L. Buick (Palmerston North).
MRS JOHN JUDD. - Another of Wairarapa's pioneer settlers, in the person of Mrs Judd, relict of the late Mr John Judd, of Greytown, passed away at her home in Cole Street, Masterton, last night after a short illness, death being due to pneumonia. The deceased, who had reached the ripe age of 80 years, was born in Cornwall, England, and arrived in New Zealand by the Duke of Rocksborough in 1840. She resided in the Greytown district for about 58 years having arrived, there from the Hutt Valley, from which place she escaped at the time of the Maori massacre. She took up her residence in Masterton some six months ago and contracted influenza on Wednesday last. She leaves a family of eight sons and five daughters. The sons are Joseph, John, George, Robert, Fred. (Masterton), Harry (Napier), James (Tane), Frank (Greytown). The daughters are Mrs Brunton (Rongomai), Mrs Walter Udy (Petone), Mrs Rogers (Greytown), Mrs W. S. Dickens and Mrs F. W. Wood (Masterton) There will be a private interment at Greytown. DEATH OP ME G. PHILLIPS. The friends of Mr 6. Phillips wiu learn with regret of his death, which took place at the Masterton Hospital at 7 o'clock this morning. The deceased was one of Masterton'b best known taxi drivers, and by his genial disposition made many" friends . He was a man of splendid physique] enjoying on this account the sobriquet of "Tiny," and his death from influenza goe's to show what a virulent form the scourge has taken. Mrs Phillipsj is also an influenza patient (in the hbspital. The funeral took place this asternoon. MR W. H. HAJRTGILL. The many friends of Mr W. H. Hartgill, of Dannevirke, will regret to hear of his death, which occurred yesterday. The deceased was managed for Messrs Barraud and Abraham, and was a wellknown judge at race'meetings. He was exceptionally popular. MB. E. FALOONEB. It is with deep regret that we have J to record the death of Mr E, Falconer, son of Mr J. Falconer, of Wangaehu, which occurred at the Masterton Hospital last evening, the cause of death being influenza. MAJOR MCKENZIE. Major McKenzie, Chief Records officer, at Trentham, died from influenza yesterday. MRS JOHN McPHEE. The death occurred at Rangitumau on Monday, to which are attached sad recollections. Mrs John McPhee, who had gone to her parents after the death of her husband, which took place a week ago at Belvedere, Carterton, succumbed to an attack of influenza. The deceased lady leaves an infant child. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to the relatives of the deceased. MB FRANK DIXON. The sad news reached Carterton yesterday morning of the sudden death of Mr Frank Dixon, who quite recently sold his farm and dairy herd at Park j Road, Carterton. The late Mr Dixon, accompanied by his wife, left Carteri ton a week ago for a holiday in 'New ' Plymouth. A few days ago both the | deceased and his wife contracted the dread f malady influenza ,with the result that Mr Dixon passed away yesterday. His wife, we understand, is in a precarious state of health with influenza and the loss of her husband. The deceased was a resident of Carterton from boyhood, and was respected by a largo circle of relatives and friends, who wiil deeply deplore his demise.
MRS S. HARRIS. Mrs Harris, wife of Mr Sydney Harris, of Whakataki, died at the Masterton Hospital on Monday night from influenza.
LITTLE HELEN POTANGAKOA. The friends of Mr and Mrs S. T. Potangaroa, of Lansdowne, will regret to hear that their little daughter, Helen, passed away last night. The little girl was nine years of age. The funeral will leave the residence, King Edward street, Lansdowne, at 2 p.m. on Thursday for the Te Ore Ore cemetery.
