PERSONAL.

Advice has been received that Private R. R. Bur ridge, of Master ton, is in hospital at Codford. The Military Medal has been awarded to Temporary-Sergeant. William Hutchings, of Featherston. Mrs F. Ford, of South road, Masterton, underwent a successful operation under Dr. H. Smith in his private hospital at Wellington yesterday.

The death is announced of the Bev. C. H. Garland, principal of the Methodist Training College at Auckland. Private Charles D. McLaren, of Masterton, has been awarded the Croix <le Guerre.

Miss Jobson, MA., principal of the Girls' High School, Invercargill, hag been appointed principal of the new; Presbyterian Girls' College, Wellington, which is to be opened in February next.

The Masterton Municipal Silver Band played a number of lively airs in Queen street last evening, the music being thoroughly appreciated by tho large number of people moving about. Mr W. J. Tennent, of Masterton, yesterday received word that his son, Sec-ond-Lieutenant H. C. Tennent, was admitted to hospital in France on October 27th, suffering from a gunshot wound in the left hand and face. This is the second occasion on which Lieut. Tennent has been wounded.

Private G. M. Perry, son of Mr W. Perry, of Masterton, and a member of the First Wellington Military Service Board, is seriously ill with influenza at Walton-on-Thames. Private Perry was wounded at Gallipoli and again in France, and for some considerable time has been conducting a wool-sorting class in England for disabled men.

After the Masterton Central Band had played selections in Queen street yesterday a message came through from Mr Howard Booth, of Carterton, inviting the members of the band to visit Carterton and enliven the citizens of that township with patriotic airs. The band acceded to the request, and their efforts during the afternoon were greatly appreciated.
