A GENERAL ELECTION
SIR JAMES CARROLL'S ANTICIPATION.
An early session with a general election before the end of the year is predicted by Sir James Carroll, M.P., who is at present on a visit, to Christchurch in connection with the Maori by-election. In conversation with a "Press'' representative, Sir James Carroll stated that his reference to Tuahiwi the other night to a gentral election being held six months hence was more a figure of speech than anything' else. It was, however, anticipated in political circles that the election would be held before the end of the year. "I don't think the country will wait till the war is over," he said. "The duration of the war may be txtended, and it would not be reasonable tr expect the general election to be postponed till its end." 'ln reply to a further question he said it looked as though there would be an early session.
