DEFENCE EXPENDITURE.

The Defence Expenditure Commission lias commenced its ' sitting at Wellington. The order of reference is very wide, and embraces every department in which there has been expenditure in connection with the war. The investigations are to be completed and the report prepared by .Tune 30th. By this time the Prime Minister and Ministor of Finance may be in London attending the Imperial War Cabinet. It is a great pity that the report could not be brought down earlier, so that it can be discussed and, if necessary, acted upon during the presence -of the leading Ministers in the Dominion. Some interesting revelations may be expected as a result of the enquiry.
