DENOMINATIONAL SCHOOLS.
The Mayor of Wellington, at the opening of the Teachers' Institute Conference yesterday, cudeavourcd to draw the Moderator of tho Presbyterian Assembly upojY a vital question. Mr Luke said thus, in his opinion, it would not be in the best interests of the Dominiou if they were tojiplit up the schools into denominational unite. The State school system was not, as it had been called, "Godless," but was elevating to the pupil and to "the credit of the teacher. Without'the national system there would not bo an identity of citizenship throughout the Dominion. Th© "national system must be txaintainod on the present basis.
