,';2()),000 ANNUAL LIABILITY. Last week the War Pensions Board dealt with 87 new claims and 80 renewals. Of the 37 new claims 80 were from soldiers. Six were granted pensions and 23 allowances, eight wei'e declined, and one adjourned. Of the dependants, 33 were granted pensions and nine allowances; six were declined and one adjourned. Of the 80 renewals, 18 were continued (four to be final), six were increased ; in seven eases the Board decifb'l to adhere to its former decision. In fifteen cases it was decided that the allowance cease forthwith, and four allowances were converted into pensions. The result of the week's operations is the granting of 67 pensions, of the annual value of £37Bl—less than the average. Th ( , annual liabilities under the Act now- stand as under: —Soldiers' (984 \ -1:52,215, average £52; wives and widows (-130, £42.528, average £O7; other dependants (1598 L £46,314, average £29; allowances (3268) £184.672, average £56. Grand total: 6284 pensions, annual value £325,639, average £sl. Sin-e the last return, cancelled pensions have increased by about 1200. representing a saving of some £60,000, leaving an annual liability at present of £265,000.
