MILITARY SERVICE ACT.

The announcement that the Military {Service Act is to be brought into immediate operation, and that all divisions of military age are to be called upon to euro] on September Ist, wall 'not come as a surprise. # The enrolment does not imply that compulsory service is to be brought into operation. It means only that the ißecruiting Board will have the power to make levies for civil and military duties when and where they may be required. Although voluntary enlistment is not to be abandoned, it would not be at all surprising if families in which there is more than one son of military !age l wil<l jbe compujlsorily drawn upon. Full details concerning the enrolments are vo be published in the newspapers and on placards and posters.
