ORGANISATION OF INDUSTRY.

In view of the fact that a severe strain is about to be placed upon the financial resources of this Dominion, it is well that every citizen .honld realise his and her obligation in the matter of preserving the equilibrium of the State. Every man must put his shoulder to the wheel. In the Old Country the labour laws are being abandoned in the meantime, nv.& tho masses, awakened to" the "danger to their national existence, are working night and day to maintain tho industries and provide the .auuitions of warfare. We, in New Zealand, have a sacred duty to perform. Our interests are as maich at stake as those of the masses in Great Britain. We should immediately organise our primary and secondary industries, so that every ounce of our resource will be developed. This can only be done by co-operation, enthusiasm, and self-sacrifice. We must be brought to realise that arms and shells are not the only essentials of warfare. The supply of foodstuffs is of supreme importance. In this connection, we would urge upon Parliament the necessity for setting up a separate Department of State to organise our industries and our labour in a scientific manner. Unless this be done, we are afraid that there will be nothing like the output in cereals that the Empire has a right to expect. We must get to work in earnest, and get to vorlc at once.
