THE RAID ON CUXHAVEN.
NO WARSHIPS DAMAGED. EXCITING FIGHT AGAINST ZEPPELINS. (Received Last N igh*t 9.50 o'clock.) ■ >.i LONDON, December 28. The British ships approached Heligoland in the dark, the clear weather promising a successful raid, but a fog descended when they were near the coast. Nevertheless, it was decided that the raid should proceed. Undoubtedly, some damage was done, including the fortification and earthworks. It is doubtful-of any ships were hit, & The Arethusa's and TJndaunted's Gin. guns had good'practice against file Zeppelins, many shrapnel shells bursting about the cars. It seems certain that some hits were made, but not sufficient to impair navigation. _ * The German aimiens' aim was fairly good; but apparently the nearest shot went 20yds wide. One destroyer bad a hot time, and had many narrow escapes. . • ,; ' The Zeppelins held no terrors for the British gunners, who fought steadily and heartily, as if fighting sea.ships.
