(By ''Also Started.") There will bo a general influx of sportsmen to. Wanganui this week, when the Cup fixture of the Wanganui Jockey Club will be held. Indications are not wanting that the meeting will be one of tho most successful in the history of the club* The fields are large and the quality of horses representative "of New Zealand's best, which is all that is needed to attract a largo attendance to tho River City. And after all it is tho crowd that is needed to bring big tote return's, which in these days seem to be tho chief ambition of the majority of racing clubs. Sixteen horses have made the final payment in the Wanganui Cup, which makes for a very strong field. Bon Ton will no doubt start favourite, with Sea Pink, Tiresome and Sir Solo next in'demand, but Los Angelos, Loonta and Sir Knox will also be supported. On his Dunedin form Ben Ton should prove a hard horse to beat on the day. The connections of Sinapis are very confident, and the same applies-to the Sir Solo section, .wlio. aver; tliat the Auckland' Cup winner was'iiGvor-better. The event is 1 or/en", and should be productive of an interesting contest. •<'B.'••lJeeiev will have'the mount oh Sir Solo, while F. E. Jones will steer Bon Ton. • . #

J. O'Sbea will ride Sir Knox in hte'Wanganui engagements, so that on the score of horsemanship the son of Sir Laddo should not suffer. A wirl foi; "the Veteran trainer R. Knox 'woulci* prove very popular, as Dame Fortune has not been too lavish with her smiles of late, as far a* the Op/ilji mentor is concerned. Bon'Reve, if all right, will he difficult vtot dispose of in the Flying at Wanganui.-*Sauci \will he a warm favourite, but will have to go fast to finish in front of Bon OReve, Ermengarde; tjulprit and Co. 7st 71b reads well in the and in the Wiritoa Hack Record, .who showed fair form at Egmont, may take beating. . .... Bercola is reported to be in great fettle, and such being the case, one would not look further for the winHor : cfr'ttie Westmere Hurdles. The Tayforth" Hurdles look good "goods" tfoV Waipaku, although in Taurajßfli/' the Foxton-trained mare will be m.eetine: a useful hurdler. Handicap should be productive of, an excellent race, several 4; goo'cl Inilers being engaged. Red Book or Stepney may supply the winner. r #J _, ;,.,..■ • It 3 would '''appear that Byron is to start in the \Vangaimi Cup, in which ,.to "carry 7st 121b. On •M^ r running Byron, would 'Save to jbrj.considered, but as Deeley is engaged to ride Sir Solo, it would appear ytliat Mr Harle's horse is a doubtful' starter., as Deeley f . is reto.j'i'de his horses. . . steeplechasers DoraiKlo and Hautcro are again in active com -mission , the-jormer at Wanganui and the latter at Auckland.

ar ltewi Votb is now trained by Percy. •JoWnsoTh ' " * ", Stan Reid. who was but recently re-instated v was on tlio back of a winner at Dnnedin. A big;oommission'was-being worked on a horse on the second day at Woorlville, but a misunderstanding occurred and tho horse was scratched, to the surprise of many. il. Berry, who was up on. Sinapis when she won the Now Zealand Cup, will* have the mount at Wanganui. The wise ones consider Bst- 101b more than this fine galloper can. conveniently handle over 12 miles. .The erstwhile Masterton .trainer M. T. McOrath has been having a run of luck in Victoria, "and with Jeneda and Wallaloo, has annexe.d several ..good''stakes.- The latter is second favourite for the Australian Cup, .in winch evenj he will, he rid,-. 'den.'by' Hector Gray, ;.. -... ~ ' ~ --•■;j^.-■•'Bflrlowv"was not long in-.-getting a race out of Simple Sam, as he had taken him over only a week prior to the meeting. Such is luck. _ A\3?aranaki writer states that Bereola will not be taken to Randwick, but will be,, raced in the big_ winter events in the Dominion. ' '-.\.~

Shandon Bells, a half sister Lady Menschikoff," by Campfire,. is engaged in the Juvenile Handicap at Wanganui, and is said to be able to go fast. Shandon Bells will need to go very fast to finish ahead of Bencontre in the «vent named. The latter is said to have freshened up since racing at Trentham and Riccarton. The trotters Todd Bella and Princess' Bruce were railed throush to Wanganui yesterday, and will be competing at the Wanganui Trotting. Club's meeting tins'week.
