THE LAST ELECTION.
Tlio Loader of the Opposition, fol.owing'The example of his newspaper apologists, is endeavouring to make the public believe that the so-called "Liberals," and not the Reformers, represent in Parliament a majority of tlio voters. The Christchurch Press points out that, apart from the Egmont, Grey, and Lvttelton disasters to the "Liberals," the position in 1911 was as follows: "Liberal, 190,000; Reform, 193,000; Labour, 47,000; Independent, 4-4,000. In some electorates—Greyi for example —no votes are credited to Reform in these totals, because there was no Reform candidate, and in one or two electorates the same" applies to the "Liberal" vote. If wd leave out of the count those electorates in which the then .Government or the Reform Party, or both, had no-candidates, ws» get this result"Liberal" 165,000, Reform 190,000, Labour 30,000, Independent 27,(X)0. Every Reformer knows what the figures will be next December, and is looking forward to them with pleasure. i
