WATERSIDE WORKERS.
AUSTRALIAN DEMANDS
(Received Last Night, 8.50 o clock.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 8. The waterside Workers' demands, to be submitted to the steamship owners, ask for an increase of thirty-tin oe per' centum in the current rates of pay, namely, 2s per hour in ordinary time for all the main ports, exceptin<* v those of Queensland, where 2s 6d per hour. is asked for. Overtime pay is fixed at time and a-half, with double time for, work between Saturday at noon and Monday morning, excepting that for Sunday, Good Friday, and" Christmas Day, for which 10s an hour is wanted. The men stipulate that they do no work with sailors or non-unionists and be not asked to receive cargo from nonunionists during a strike. . In the case of having to be vaccinated under regulation, they demand £1 for each time they undergo th eoperation. The agreement proposes that three sacks shall constitute a oneman load for a two-wheel truck. Truckers are to do no other work. In the accident insurance scheme, for which the employers are responsible, it is suggested that the payments from the fund range from 3os weekly to a minimum of £floo.
