SHIPPING OF RACEHORSES.

ANOTHER -DISaONSTJEtATION IX WELLINGTON. MOUNTED CONSTABLES LINE THE STREETS. STONE-THROWING BY THE MOB. SEVERAL PERSONS INJURED. WELLINGTON, Last Night. As a deputation from the many trainers now at Trentham, Messrs J. H. Pollock and W. Smart interviewed the executive of tKfe Federation of Labour this morning, asking that the matter of allowing the remaining horses to be shipped south be reconsidered.

At 11.45 a.m. Mr W. T. Young, the president, telephoned Messrs Pollock and Smart to the effect that the committee had carefully considered the matter, and that it had again been decided that the racehorses were cargo. As such, the pickets would not permit their entry through the wharf gates. The United Federation Executive decided this afternoon that the racehorses should go south this evening. Meantime, about 3 o'clock *.this afternoon, nearly 1000 of the mounted specials rode from the barracks through the main streets of the city towards the, waterfront. It is understood the muster-was . connected with vthe .shipping -of , the^' racehorses for'.the southby the /Maun-; ganui to-night. There was great excitement as the large body of men, ail carrying batons, cantered along, and the reception was a- mixed one, though the "boohooing" predominated. , . In. some localities stones were thrown, and several of the mounted ; men were struck while passing through Willis street, one being wounded on the head. . . Two others were unseated, but were assisted to remount. .

, The crowd stoned the rearguard all ' the way up Ghuznee street, and at the turn into Willis street the men I became somewhat demoralised and' made three or four charges at .the { mob. * ; \ The officers called on the specials to J halt, but the men did not do so un- i til they had retaliated to some slight extent.

Meanwhile .many people, had taken refuge in St ; Peter?s Church, where a service w&s in progress. f As the second contingent reached the vicinity of "The Post Office, in Featherstoiv street,, the catcalls increased, an 4 there was a good deal of-stone-throwing.' A carter crushed out and struck one of the constable's horses with his whip. The animal reared', and the crowd surged round him. Some of the crowH started stonethrowing. . . The mounted men turned their horses and faced __ the crowd with drawn batons.

There was a lull, and the men wheeled sharply and galloped after the leading contingent, followed by a shouting crowd. ''■ • j Subsequently the specials lined all the streets around the railway wharf, while the racehorses were loaded on the Maunganui. Several men wero badly .injured by flying missiles, and .more, than one charge had to be mado by the mountedfi to cleaV the roads. THE HORSES SHIPPED. WELLINGTON, Last Night.
