TRUST LANDS TRUSTEES.
The Masterton Trust Lands Trustees 1 have been challenged for having made matriculation grants frcm their scholarship fund. They have shielded themselves behind the opinion of their solicitor, as, no doubt, they are entitled to do, leaving those who make the challenge to take whatever proceedings they might think fit. We would suggest, however, that the time has arrived when the Trustees should seek an Enabling Bill, sol that they might place the revenues.from the scholarship acres to their general account. Whatever the circumstances might have been when a portion of the Trust lands were set aside for scholarship purposes, there is no justification at the present time for a special fund for such a purpose. The revenues of the Trust as a whole should be largely devoted to educational purposes, and it should be for the* Trnr.t (■<->.<> to determine hou' those revenues shall, be expended, When
the late Mr William Lowe9 occupied the chair, it was suggested that the revenue from tho scholarship acres should be put into the ordinary aoqount, and it is surprising to us that this suggestion has not long since been acted upon. *
