PERSONAL.

The death occurred on Monday of Mr Adam Waldin, a well-known settler of the Forty-Mile Bush, at the age of 43 years. At the meeting of the Pahiatua County Council on Saturday last, a resolution of condolence with the widow an dfamily of the late Mr R. ; Smith was carried unanimously. For the fourth time in succession, Mr E. McKenzie, of Carterton, has been appointed referee for the Ranfurly Shield Rugby, match between Auckland and Taranaki.

His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine) was last night appointed to represent the Masterton Borough Council at a meeting of the- Executive of the Municipal Conference to bo held in Wellington on Tuesday next.

Mr W. C. Coulter, who has been connected with the firm of Messrs, Dalgety and Co., Masterton, for the past nine years, has severed hus connection with the firm.- Prior to'his departure Mr Coulter was the recipient of a handsome silver spirit flrfsk and cigarette ease from the members of the staff. The Education Board has confirmed the following teachers' appointments: Miss May Phillpotts, assistant mistress at Greytown; Miss L. Ramsay, assistant mistress at Ballance; Mr G. R. Kidson; science master at Training College; Miss L. Godfrey, assistant mistress at Taita; and Miss G. I. Worboys, assistant mistress at Mangapakeha. The Rev. Father Bowe, who has been for several years in charge of the Roman Catholic parish of South Wairarapa, is about to be transferred, to Dannevirke. Father Bowe has many friends among all denominations in the district, who will be sorry'to hear that he is leaving. He will be succeeded by the Rev. Father Kinsaid, of Marton.
