PACIFIC DEFENCE.
'"Ts Xew Zealand likely to join forces with the Common-wealth !•'" was a ij.uestion put to the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, Mr Fisher, during his visit to Sydney Inst week. He replied : "That is not for mo to say. It rests entirely with the Notv Zoaland Government, A lot has been made out of the fact t-h'afc Mr A'ien, tlio Now Zealand Minister for Defence, had a chat with us in Melbourne recently, and that Mr Fraser, our Postmaster-General, has been -spending .some time in New Zealand. Mr Fraser's visit- to the Dominion 'lias been chiefly concerned with postal and cable matters, Any discussion lie has had in regard to .closer rela-
tions in matters, of defence and «o forth have been of a purely conversational nature. We are not going to press New Zealand to join us. Wo are the dominant and wo leave it to the .smaller country to say whether it will join hands with us or not. My own views 011 the subject are well-known, however."
