MEETING OF GKXEHAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Gtnif.ru! Committoo of tins Ma.sto.rton A. and I'. Association was held on Saturday last, there being present—-Messrs H. Morrison (president), H. Dagg. E, C, Porr.v, G. H. Shaw, It. Gray, E. G. Allen, -W. .). Welch, J. Strang, J. FHeckler, H. J. James, B. J?«yner, A. Donald. 1). Freeimui, O. C. Cooper, ,1. B. Moodie, I). McGregor, E. Harper, G.C. .Summcrell, A. G. Pilmer, D. Caselberg. J. C. McKillop, J. T.. Dagg, and A. J. Perry. The committee sot up liy the Masterton A. ami P. Association to consider the question of farm labourers »m\ domestics,- reported as follows to the meeting of the General Committee on Saturday last: "The committee h of opinion that fanners will , not commit themselves in the mat- 1 ter, but that a broad statement as to the number of hands wbo would ieadiiy find employment in this district would meet the requirements. They consider that forty farm lab- ' ourers and fifty domestics would have ' no difficulty in securing employment, provided the former arrive in late J ■spring or early slimmer." [ The Ground Committee reported having met on the Solway ground on Wednesday, January 15th. It was resolved that an experiment be tried in the direction of installing wirenetted feed racks in the show sheep pens, .and the caretaker was instructed t) proceed with the work in two sections of pens. It was decided that motor cars for exhibition be allotted \ space between the show ring and sheep pavilions. It was further do- j elded that two cattle-judging rings > be- provided; that a, lawn-mower be procured for use on the grandstand enclosure; and that the special committer set up to arrange hurdles in the show-ring be asked to meet members of the Ground Committee and finally decide upon the position of ] hurdles. I
The Luncheon Committee reported having given an order for three milk' vats and instructed the secretary to invite, tenders for the .supply of groceries, crockery, etc.
The report of the ordinary meeting of the Ground Committee was read. Ft was resolved that the use of the grounds be granted the Friendly Societies for a picnic on Easter Monday, on condition that the caretaker act as supervisor, and that the charge be £5 e-s. An offer of Miss H. Gillespie, lady superintendent of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, of six m?m> be.r-s to attend the show was accepted, and it was decided that arrangements ho made for the erection of a shelter. Tfc was deckled that a trial be made covering two dozen cattle pens. Mr Gray was deputed to arrange with the caretaker for the erection of a stand foV the purpose of taking photographs during the show. The careI taker's report was adopted. . j The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was adopted. The treasurer submitted a financial | ■statement, which showed receipts for the month amounting to £399 12s, and expenditure £SB 3s lOd. A debit ' of £'lß3 IGs lid "as shown at date. The opinion iva.s expressed +bat insufficient publicity was given to train arrangements for "the show, and the secretary- was 'instructed to confer Avith the president and Mr McGregor as to a means of bringing railway facilities under the notice of the public.
The Military Secretary of His Excellency the Governor expressed regret that, owing to a prior engagement His Excellency would be unable to be present at the annual show. A sub-eonwnittee consisting of Messrs Morrison, J). McGregor, W. Perry and B. Rayner was set up to co-operate with the Masterton Chamber of Commerce and local bodie.s in extending a fitting welcome to the Minister of Public Works on the occasion of his forthcoming visit to Masterton. ■
The North Otago A. and P, Association asked for certain information in regard to privileges, etc., for >s\ibmission to the A. and P. Conference. —The secretary was instructed to furnish the information
The Borough' Council wrote in refety. once to the licensing of taxi-cabs and. motor cars for show days.—Tlie opinion, was expressed that the Borough r '< unci! was adopting a narrow course, in restricting the number of. motor cars plying for biro to those licensed in the tovyn.—A committee consisting of Messrs Mcodie, Cooper. Caselberg, McGregor and Summerel-I; was wet up to interview the Borough Council on the question.
