THE HALF-HOLIDAY
Tliero is one aspect of. the weekly half-holiday question which seems to
have escaped general notice. I'lie Legislature, in its wisdom, Ims left it .to the local authorities to determine on which half-day in the week the shop, assistants shall be given their holiday. The same Legislature has decreed that all factories shall: clbse on Saturdays. Thus it happens that tone half of the employees make iholiiday on one day, and the other half on another. The Legislature do one of two things. It should either itself dsveide upon a uni. versal "half-holiday, or it should allow the local authorities to decide upon .-.which day factories as well as shops ,sh'all close. Possibly the latter course would be the better of the two.
