KAIPARORO.

The weather tlir6ughout the weelc has been all that could be desired, and oven the regular grumblers have had perforce to cease their nrnrmur--sngs. The nights, for the time of year, have been unusually chilly, and! ion Wednesday a frost was recorded. It slightly touched potato and tomato crops, but unless the temperature again falls low, they will not be very seriously injured. The latter crop is usually hard to ripen in the district, and this year owing to the frequent i frosts in the spring, ripe tomatoes I will probably be a scarce commiodity. I Full advantage is being taken of the fine weather .bv farmers who have hay to harvest. The crops this season are above the average, and another week of fine weather will seeitiiem ail safely under cover. So far, there have been no Ira sit fires here, owners with felled busfe. having decided to postpone burning operations until later in the season, •in order that the bush may have a chance of becoming thoroughly dry. [During the past few weeks quite a nuimiber of motor cars and motor cycles have been using the short cut; between Eketahuna and Mastertos, x via the Mt. Bruce Road. This road, . in common with all others throughout the district, is rather rough at present, owing to the freqtfent driving of stock over it. The flooring-, of the swing over tille Makakahi Hiver' is badly in need of repairs. As the dipping season is approaching, and it is tim used as a stock bridge, probably ife ■will soon be made safe.

Mrs Palmer, the local postmistress, is absent, enjoying a well-earnfji holiday in the Taihape district. Boning Iher absence Miss V. Falkner is carrying out relieving duties. The local school re-opened on January 20th. Some improvements to the adhool residence; site were carried out during the holidays 'by the School Committee, and the work of building the residence is being pushed on expeditiously by, the contractor, Mr Power. .. . The building,'/which is being pai up to accommodate the assistants the Kaiparoro cheese factory, w2S very shortly be completed.
