AUCKLAND, Lost Night,

• The first anmoiinoeanent by Press Association cable ,witih regard to the result of the voting in.Maine on the subject of prohibition, gave a isJight majority in favour of the retention of the law. A cable received by the Provincial Council of the "Trade" stated that there was a majority of 26 in favour of the repeal of the law. The New Zealand Alliance has now received the following cable, in response to an inquiry:— "Maine, prohibition victory."
