MAINE AND PROHIBITION.
The question of whether the State of (Maine has, or has not repeale*! its prohibition law, .appears to no still agitating the minds of a section of the community in New Zealand. The public is !proba.bly not awiare that the repealing of proliibition does not imply tthe- granting of licenses. It merely establishes a similar position to that which exists in New Zealand under No-license. In any case, it would appear that the "Trade" has been a little previous in making its announcement, for the original statement, cabled (through, the Press Association, that the repeal of the prohibitory law, had not been carried, is confirmed by a cable to 'the New Zea.lanid Alliance. It is funny how all tinese mountainous' assertions .by the "Trade" evaporate when put to the test! Why do not the leaders of thw "Continuance" party submit something tangible? Their, case is surely not ,so hopeless that they must needs depend, upon bubbles, which ran be pricked at any moment!
