By Associativa .
WELLINGTON, Las* Night
A deputation of members of thi Feathgrstou County Council and. Martinborough Town Board was. infroduced. by iur W. C. Buchanan, M.P., to the Minister 1 of Public Works on Saturday afternoon. The object was to ask that the Featherston to Martinborough railway heincluded., in the, JEtaalways Authorisation Ftil, which it' was understood, wouid be laid before Parliament this session. Assistance was also asked frbm the Government for the completion of the bridge which was the main outlet for Martinbcaough. The Minister repKed thai the Government was strictly limited as to' the amount of money available for railway construction. He realised that the district was an excellentone, and capable of great development; but he doubted very much ■ whether any branch railways would be auithonsed this session. The mattea would be placed before Cabinet, and it would receive, the same consideration a® others. The bridge question was settled: long ago. The district insisted- on lengthiening the bridge and adding to the cost, to an extent the Government regarded as. urmiecessairy. If they wanted luxuries, they must pay for them. They cctiJcl spoiid as much money as they liked, but would get no more, fromthe Government.
