DUNEDIN MATCHES

DUNBDIN, Last Night

Football matches were continued on Satui-day, in damp, cold weather, with the following results : —University, 13 points, beat Union, 3; Alhambra, 3, drew with Port Chalmers; Southern, 9, beat Kaikorai, 8; Dunedin, 8, beat Taieri Hovers, 5; Zingari-Richmond, 11, beat Pirates, nil. WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION. SENIOR MATCHES. RED STAR (7) v. CARTERTON (3). Carterton were beaten for the first time this season, by Red Star, on the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon. Right from the opening the home team commenced attacking, and twice in quick succession the Carterton team were compelled to force down. Carterton played a good defensive game, but they did not have many opportunities to attack. Just before half-time Ball got the ball from a scrum, and dashed over the line, scoring a try for Star The kick'at goal failed. The Star forwards pressed on their opponents' line for practically the whole of the second half, but the kicking of Masson and Groube relieved the situation again and again. To make up for some rather inferior play, Oberhurber secured the ball, dashed through several Carterton men, and from the 25 yards' line, potted a splendid goal, whicn was greeted with loud and prolonged cheers from the grandstand. Just on the call of time Carterton made a. desperate attempt, and Barry succeeded in crossing the line. The try was not converted, and the game ended with the scores —Red Star 7, Carterton 3.

GLADSTONE (11) v. MASTERTON (8).

The Masterton seniors were defeated by Gladstone, at Gladstone, on Saturday, by 11 points to 8. In spite of there being, several members absent, Masterton had the best of the game, and were unfortunate in not scoring on several occasions. Hodge scored a try for Gladstone, which Mason con-vex-ted, and Mason kicked two penalty goals. Masterton's score was made up of a try by Mjnett, which Yates converted, and a penalty goal kicked by Yates.

JUNIOR MATCHES. LIBERAL (31) v. MASTERTON (0). Liberal juniors had an overwhelming win against Masterton, at Greytown, on Saturday, the final scores being 31 to nil. DALEFIELD (13) v. RED STARS (0). Dalefield defeated Red Star by 13 points to nil. Tries were scored bv Playle (2), and W. Hart, Hart converting one, and Gallon one. The three tries were scored in the %sfc seven minutes, and afterwards she game was very even. THIRD CLASS. KED STAR (12) v. DALEFIELD (0). Red Star 111. defeated Dalefield, on the showgrounds, by 12 to nil. The score consisted of four tries. LIBERAL (15) v. MASTERTON (S). The Liberal 111. defeated Masterton at Carterton, by 15 points to 3, after a rather oife-sided game. CARTERTON (6) v. GREYTOWN (3). The above match was a very even one, and was won by Carterton by six points to three. WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of- the Management Committee of tihe Waararapa Rugby Uinion was held at Carterton on Saturday evening. The secretary was instructed to write to the folio-wing Unions owing Wairarapa home ■matches, ashing if their teams will visit the district- this season, and to give approximate dates: Manawatu, Rangitikei, W.a-nganui and Hawke's Bay, also Wellington juniors. A. Thompson (Masterton Olub) was granted ia transfer from isenior to junior. L. Masson, (Carterton Club) injured in the match with Masterton, was declared on the insurance fund. The treasurer reported a credit balance to date of £4O, the overdraft with which the season commenced having been wiped out. Accounts amounting to £7 15s 9d were passed for payment. • It was decided to meet fortnightly till further notice. SECOND ROUND FIXTURES. The following are the junior and third-class fixtures for the second round up to July Ist: JUNIOR. June 24th.— Liberal v. Dalefield at Bale-field, referee Mr Chapman. Masterton v. Grey town at Greytown, Mr Adams. Carterton v. Red Star at Masterton, Mr Crosbiie. July Ist. Liberal v. Greytown, referee Mr Harding; Carterton v. Dale-field at DalefieM, Mr Niaholls; Red Star v. Masterton at Masterton, Mr Crosbie. THIRD-GLASS. June 24th.— Liberal v. DalefieM at Feattheiiston, referee to be appointed; Masterton v. Greytown-at Masterton, Mr Darvill; Carterton v.
