"Sir, — Your artdale in yesterday morning's issue, drawing attention to. the apathy of the townspeople to the forthcoming competitions is ly commendable. The Society ds deserving of the assistance of all business mien, in Masterton, for these functions always bring a large number of visitors to the town who must be catered, for, winch means increased ibusdness and also extra, advertisement. The educational value to those taking part is not to be overlooked or dasipised. They know that they must pay most careful attention to all details in the work on hand, whiclr all generally take >up with a spirit tOiat is amazing. We may have unknown in our midst, a "Maire Hall," a- "Liszt" or a "Shakespeare." These competitionis are the means of bringing them and their talents to the front, who otherwise may remain in obscurity, and the entertainment provided for the public is bright, clean, and wholesome, and keeps one and all interested from start to finish.— I am, etc., A.
