Mr G. N. Barnes, speaking at Walworth, hoped that Sir Edward Grey would not over-do the Anglo-American aspect. An American Alliance might Avell bring new troubles. Tire German bogey has got to be buried. Dr. Clifford, preaching at Westbourne Park Church, said that the pronouncements had introduced a new factor into the international situation. Hitherto the ideal had been never to fight unless there had previously been arbitration —now tlio ideal was to arbitrate, and never to fight afterwards. During Dr. Horton's address at the Lyndhurst Road Congregational Church, Hampstead, the congregation rose to their feet to signify their assent, and sank to their knees while a prayer was offered for the success of Sir Edward Grey's proposals.
