Mr C. B. Pharazyn. of Longwood, Fcathe/ston, has returned this week from a visit to the Old Country. The Rev. Edward Walker has resigned the charge of the Presbyterian Church at Halcpmbe in view of the possibility, of his departure for an extended stay in California.
Mr A. E. Fanthorpo, of the South Island, has been appointed to succeed Mr Bennett as bailiff at Masterton. Mi- Bennett leaves for Collingwood immediately on the arrival of his successor.
The Rev. S. J. Serpell, the newly appointed minister.to the' Masterton Methodist Church, entered the ministry of his church in 1884, and previous to his appointment three years ago to Wellington, held appointments in New Plymouth and Tima.ru. In each place he was very popular.

Mr John Martin, of Martin's Bay, Wellington Harbour, whose death was recorded last week, was one of the men who wore compelled by the notorious Te Ivooti to navigate the schooner Rifleman from the Chathams to Gisborne, when the vessel -was seized by the Maoris, who had been deported to the Islands in consequence of their misdeeds in Poverty Bay.
