The match of the Australian cricketers against Kent began to-day, at Canterbury, in brierht and breezy weather, though rain fell yesterday.

Mason won the toss, and elected to bat, Seymour and Humphreys opening for the country. The former scored 10 off Hopkins' fir3t over, but lost his wicket playing forward in the next. One foi 18. Hopkins was bumping slightly, but otherwise the wicket was good. S. Day joined Humphreys, and a spell of steady bowling and careful batting followed, 60 goinsr up at the end of an hour's play. Duiing 85 minutes he was at the wicket, he displayed brilliant driving. His score included two sixers from one over of Armstrong, and eight fourers. Five for 210.
