CHALLENGE TO MR TAYLOR.
The "Press" challenges Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P., for Cbristchurch North, to resign his seat and offer himself for re-election on the Dreadnought issue. It says: "Mr Taylor denies that the meeting last night was 'packed,' and in proof of his denial advances the somewhat Hibernian proposition that 'the first man who went into the hall found it empty, and others were admitted as they came.' We are .assured, however, on trustworthy authority that although the hall was announced to be opened at seven o'clock it was more than half full of people at five minutes to seven, and we should like to know whether these consisted of Mr Taylor's personal friends and supporters, and whether the word was passed round to them to put in this remarkably early appearance. We deny absolutely that the lone rigmarole submitted to the meeting in the guise of a resolution represents the opinion either of the city of Christchurch or of the electors of Christchurch North. If Mr Taylor disputes this assertion let him resign his seat and submit himself again to the electors with last night's manifesto, apparently concocted by himself, as the issue to be decided. Jhat is the tribunal to which he should submit himself, not a meeting in sL hall which ig half filled in some mysterious manner at a time when it is officially declared to be closed to the public."
