JAPANESE SPIES.
A MINISTERIAL STATEMENT. The Japanese "spies," who, the Minister for Defence,was informed, had been in Queensalnd taking observations, have, he understands, returned to their own T.iuntry. He has received official information which confirms him in the belief that the Japanese seen were a party of special intelligence officers, "I do not attach any special significance to this," says Senator Pearce, "as it is well known that all countries have officers engaged m the task of gaining information about each other. The. incident, however, should serve to make us more ready to properly protect ourselvles."
