CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) | Tuesday. Last evening a quarterly summoned meeting of the Rechabite Lodge was held, Bro. W. Tucker presiding. It was decided to support the United Friendly Societies' Council in the movement to procure a bedjn the Greytown Hospital for members of the Lodges. One member Wins declared'off the sick list. The following officers were installed by Bro. VV. H. Partridge:—Secretary, Bro. Tucker; Treasure!, Bro. J. Preddy; D.K., Bro. T. W. Foster. News reached here yesterday of the death of Mr Matthew McLeod, well-known in sawmilling circles, which occurred in the Otaki Hospital on Monday last. Deceased was at one time manager for Messrs W. Booth •and Co., and was highly respected. He leaves a widow, who will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in her bereavement.. The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held on Monday evening last, Bro. G. Hart, A.D., presiding. Two brothers were declared on the sick list, and one off. It was resolved to support the proposal that the funds in the hands of the Carterton Friendly Societies' Council be used to provide a bed for the use ,of Lodge members in the South Wairarapa Hospital. Sick pay amounting to £lO Is 7d was passed for payment, and the receipts amounted to £l2. The Hospital box at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel was cleared the other day, and its contents, amounting to £2 16s, forwarded to the South Wairarapa Hospital. This amount carries with it a Government subsidy of 24s in the £. The annual meeting of the Hinemoa- Hockey Club is to be held on Thursday afternoon next. On the bowling green last evening, two games of the pairs tournament were pbyed, Whyte and Dudson being defeated by Phillpotts and Moriarty, 21 to 8, and Masson and Steer defeating Ramsay and Kiddie by 18 to 14.
